Tasting Notes
This spicy yet refined Zinfandel is beautifully balanced with remarkable color. Aromas of cinnamon and dark mixed berry merge with flavors of blackberry jam, ripe raspberry, and a touch of peppercorn. A luxurious wine with a long and silky finish.
Vintage Notes
It’s no secret our 2012 harvest was outstanding, with ideal weather and an abundance of exceptional fruit. Warm, moderate temperatures throughout the growing season allowed our fruit to reach the perfect state of ripeness without sacrificing balance and intensity. With no heat spikes, cold weather or rain, the fruit ripened evenly and developed great color and concentration, producing wines with rich flavors and excellent structure.
Vineyard Notes
This Reserve wine combines valley floor and hillside Zinfandel from the northern end of Dry Creek Valley. The vineyard ripened at the beginning of October 2012. This was a warm, dry year that allowed us to carefully pick by flavors, not just Brix levels. The fruit goes through a meticulous sorting table and delivers fruit with as many whole berries as possible.
Winemaker Notes
The grapes underwent an extended cold soak for five days. Infrequent pump-overs during fermentation allowed for greater color extraction and the ability to control tannin levels. We then complemented this fleshy wine by aging it in 60% new French oak barrels for 20 months to allow for full integration.
