Wild Oak Vineyard
Tasting Notes
This Chardonnay, sourced from our Certified Sustainable Wild Oak Estate Vineyard, is a medium-bodied wine that seamlessly blends crispness and refreshment. The zesty aromas and flavors and a touch of minerality create a harmonious balance. On the palate, the wine reveals a vibrant bouquet of citrus and vanilla, offering a delightful interplay of crisp fruitiness with notes of lemon curd, ripe melon, and toasted oak. Subtle hints of oak contribute depth to this well-rounded Chardonnay, while the fresh acidity ensures a bright and clean finish.
Vintage Notes
Our 2022 harvest began just a little earlier than the previous year, with the first fruit picked on August 15. Limited rainfall during the growing season produced slightly lighter crops but brought intense, concentrated flavor and color. The consistent weather during the summer months helped maintain fruit acidity, bringing brightness and balance to the fruit’s flavors. Harvest continued through the middle of October when we picked the last red grapes from our estate Wild Oak Vineyard.
Vineyard Notes
Our Estate Wild Oak vineyard was planted to three different chardonnay clones in order to offer a variety of complexity through aromas & textures. For this vintage, winemaker Katie Madigan combines 90% clone 76 which produces a spicier, more mineral-driven chardonnay, 7% clone 4 which gives balance to the mouthfeel, and a touch of tropical notes from adding in 3% clone 548.
Winemaker Notes
Each clone is picked & fermented separately in bbl. Hand stirring occurs 2x/week after the completion of alcoholic fermentation, and when mouthfeel + acidity are in balance, malolactic fermentation is halted & the wine begins its elevage period. The wine stays in bbl without racking until the final blend is created a few months before bottling.
