Tasting Notes
This warm region Zinfandel awakens with rich aromas of blueberry, spice, and black forest cake. The mouthfeel is polished with an enchanting density accented with boysenberry and toffee. The finish exudes vibrantly refined tannins and lasting acidity.
Vintage Notes
The 2017 growing season started wet with record-breaking rainfall after several dry years. A mild spring led to a timely bud break and good fruit set, followed by ideal conditions of cool mornings and warm, sunny days throughout the summer months. A few days of intense heat at the beginning of September sped up ripening throughout the region. Well-timed picks meant the majority of the fruit was in by the first week of October. Beautiful color, well-defined aromatics, and outstanding flavor are all evident in this vintage.
Vineyard Notes
Winemaker Katie Madigan sourced Zinfandel from three different vineyards in Dry Creek Valley, a region renowned for producing intense, concentrated Zinfandel. The wine is blended with Dry Creek Petite Sirah for additional structure and complexity.
Winemaker Notes
This wine showcases the best of Dry Creek Valley, from the valley floor to hilltop vineyards. The well-drained soils and fog patterns from the Pacific Ocean create perfect growing conditions for Zinfandel, resulting in smaller crops with highly concentrated, intense fruit. The grapes undergo a cold soak before fermentation to extract optimal color and aroma. After primary fermentation, the wine is pumped into French oak barrels, where it undergoes natural malolactic fermentation, followed by 18 months of aging in French oak barrels, 45% new.
