Tasting Notes
This rich and velvety Cabernet Sauvignon leads with an herbaceous nose of sage and cacao. You’ll indulge in flavors of juicy ripe fruits on the palate, opening with notes of blackberry, plum, and cherry, trailed by notes of Earl Grey and spice. A slight minerality and soft tannins create a smooth finish. Bold and robust, this Cabernet Sauvignon begs to be shared over dinner of braised short ribs or roast lamb.
Vintage Notes
We began our 2019 harvest before dawn on August 30. After a growing season that started in winter with record rainfall, the year ended with warm, even temperatures throughout summer. With few spikes in heat over the period, our vineyards had optimal conditions. Spring rains ended in time for good fruit set. The temperate summer allowed for long hang times and consistent, even ripening. We picked the majority of our fruit in September and the weather continued to cooperate. Warm breezy days, but fortunately no rain took place in October and the last of the grapes were harvested before the end of the month.
Vineyard Notes
The Cabernet Sauvignon fruit for this lush red wine comes from our Certified Sustainable Estate Lagomarsino Vineyard in Russian River Valley. This scenic vineyard, just south of the town of Healdsburg, ascends into the foothills providing warm, sunny days above the fog line, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. The long growing season of Russian River Valley allows full ripeness, but with less aggressive tannins than in warmer regions.
Winemaker Notes
All grapes are gently de-stemmed before cold-soaking for two days to extract optimal color and flavor. the fruit is fermented in separate lots, allowing each lot to be individually and distinctly crafted before being aged in French oak barrels, 33% new. The wine is kept 20 months in barrel before final blending.
